The crossover continued for MMA prospect Chris Honeycutt (2-0) over the weekend on the undercard of Up and Comers 15 in Fresno, California. A two-time All American wrestler out of Edinboro University, Honeycutt made his MMA debut in January under the UPC banner. For his second fight Honeycutt was booked versus California fighter Richard Blake (11-23).
In the opening minute Honeycutt launched a head kick and superman punch before he looked for his first takedown. Blake was able to scramble away from Honeycutt's first shot at bringing the fight to the floor but was unable to avoid the prospect's next attempt in the center of the cage. On the floor Honeycutt threw only a handful of strikes but outmuscled Blake from every position.

Ultimate Victory Challenge returned with yet another bang on Friday night, as UVC 23: Invasion went down at the Aladdin Shrine Center in Columbus, Ohio.
In the main event, UVC middleweight champion Luke Zachrich (12-2) moved his UVC record to 2-0 in a non-title bout against Marcus Finch (7-7) with a unanimous decision. Zachrich controlled the bout in all aspects, and it seemed at times like there were two completely different fights going on in one. The first round mostly featured Zachrich showcasing his ground game, as he transitioned on the ground and spent most of the first frame trying to submit Finch.

Controversy abounds from Tampa up to Connecticut as Florida promotion the Xtreme Fighting Championships and XFC lightweight champion Nick Newell (9-0) have parted ways. The XFC fired the first shot with a well timed early Friday morning press release at 9:15 AM ET on May 10th. The title of the release read "XFC president discusses Nick Newell's unwillingness to defend title".
Throughout the XFC's six year history promoting MMA events mostly in south Florida, Newell was by the far the regional show's biggest homegrown star. Newell's last four fights were under the XFC banner and the promotion heavily promoted him for their upcoming card on June 14th in Tampa. In Newell's last fight for the XFC he headlined a December event and captured the organization's lightweight title belt from Bellator veteran Eric Reynolds (16-6).

Lorenzo Fertitta, The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Chairman & CEO, applauded the Connecticut General Assembly's House of Representatives for passing HB-5277 today by an overwhelming 117-26 vote. The bill would legalize mixed martial arts (MMA) and add Connecticut to the list of 48 states where MMA is currently legal. He said MMA fans must now turn their attention to the Senate and urge the leadership to allow a vote on the bill.
"I want to thank the House members who supported this bill. It's the right thing to do for the thousands of Connecticut MMA and UFC fans, for economic development in the state and for jobs," Fertitta said. "We will now turn our attention to the Senate and urge the leadership to permit the bill to be voted upon. We are confident that if Senators are allowed to vote on the bill, it will pass with strong bipartisan support."
