Father, crab fisherman and unbeaten MMA heavyweight an interview with Rob Woodin
In any other pro sport the chances of a 36 year old coming off a five year layoff making it to the big leagues lie somewhere between slim and none. Ah but in MMA and more importantly in the sport's heavyweight division your odds increase dramatically if you have knockout power in both hands and work with the right gym. On June 2nd the combat sports world will welcome back Power MMA's Rob Woodin (6-0) to active competition.
Woodin will headline Phoenix promotion Coalition of Combat's second event versus 26 year old Dan Charles (3-0). Nearly 12 full years after he made his pro MMA debut, Woodin's frantic life outside the cage may have hit a lull long enough for him to make one final run at becoming a full time fighter. Woodin knows that a potential fast-track to the UFC begins with a highlight reel performance versus Charles.
ULTMMA.com sat down with Woodin after a recent practice with his team at Power MMA. Woodin talks about his motivation to get back in the cage, training at Power MMA and explains what is like for a part time fighter as well as a full time dad.
