Lightweight prospect Dakota Cochrane moves to 7-1 with slam KO finish at Cage Inc.

North Dakota mixed martial arts promotion Cage Inc. held their eight show in the Battle at the Boarder series at the Dakota Magic Casino in Hankinson, ND. A rising lightweight prospect on the Midwest MMA scene, Dakota Cochrane (7-1), was slotted in the co-main spot versus veteran Marshall Martin (18-10). The Cochrane vs. Martin bout was a five round fight for the Cage Inc. 155 pound strap.

After a close first round, Cochrane came out like a cannon in the second frame. A single takedown from Cochrane resulted in a near slam knockout finish that caught Martin off guard. Cochrane finished the slam with a flurry of punches until the referee called it off. The official time of the KO win came at 1:57 of round tow in favor of Cochrane.

A 24 year old Nebraska bred fighter Cochrane turned pro in November 2009. In 2010, Cochrane went 5-1 with his lone blemish coming at the hands of Midwest mainstay and current UFC lightweight T.J O'Brien in July. With an active schedule Cochrane finished of the year with a 3-0 run that included a huge win over four star 155 pound prospect Marcus LeVesseur.

With a couple more big name wins in his bag Cochrane could quickly move up the lightweight prospect ranks and position himself for a run at the national MMA promotion.

Two time WEC fighter Clint Godfrey (12-3) returned to the Great Plains MMA circuit in the Cage Inc. main event. A former top bantamweight prospect Godfrey took on Nebraska Charlie DuBray (7-4). Godfrey, a Rapid City based fighter, wasted little time to dispatch of DuBray. Godfrey sunk in the fight finishing rear naked choke submission at the 1:59 mark of round one.

After parting ways with the WEC with a 0-2 Godfrey will use 2011 as a year to stack wins. Godfrey is now 12-1 on the local scene. At 135 pounds Godfrey will continue to be one of the toughest competitors in the Midwest.
