Bantamweight Paul McVeigh's (18-6) hot streak continued in the co-main event slot of Cage Warriors FC 40. The 28 year old McVeigh took on Germany's Andreas Bernhard (7-2) in a five round title bout for the CWFC bantamweight title. A four star prospect at 135 pounds McVeigh left little doubt to why he is considered one of the UK's best under 155 competitors.

McVeigh opened up round one with a mix of strikes that kept Bernhard off balance. Head kicks and looping hooks from McVeigh did not allow the shorter (5'1) Bernhard to close the distance. A hard knee from McVeigh that shook Bernhard further swung the first round in the Irishman's favor.

In the second round Bernhard was able to drag the fight to mat. On the ground McVeigh's improving ground game was on display as he worked from side control into a fight ending mount position. McVeigh battered Bernhard with punches until the referee had seen enough. The official time of the TKO win for McVeigh came at the 2:57 point of round two.

A winner of five of his last six fights since 2008 McVeigh has earned his spot as the man to beat at 135 pounds in the UK MMA scene. While a handful of interesting fights remain for McVeigh on his side of the Atlantic, the time for him to test his fight skills in the US draws closer with each passing victory. The continued success of UK import Brad Pickett in the UFC in a abstract way also helps McVeigh and proves that UK fighters in the featherweight and bantamweight class have a place in the world's largest MMA organization.

If, McVeigh continues to put away opponents in impressive fashion than he should earn his shot in the UFC or perhaps even Bellator FC before the end of 2011.
