Adrenaline MMA IV Results

Council Bluff, IA - Adrenaline's fourth installment was more about MMA veterans getting back on track than local MMA prospects from the Midwest.
Prospect Watch: Jason Riley and Matt Delanoit
Stock Up: Matt Delanoit's professional record of 13-8 is very unassuming at first glance. The Nebraska product suffered a defeat at Adrenaline IV to Jeremy Lang 15-1 by split decision in a very closely contested contest.
Rather than being labeled a MMA nomad, Delanoit has in fact proven to be a "go to guy" for many of the top Midwest MMA promotions. Though often times coming up short, the 25 year old's loss column is filled with up and coming Midwest MMA prospects as well as seasoned MMA vets. Ben Askren, Steve Carl, Bobby Voelker and Ken Burns have all stood across the cage from Delanoit.
So, even though Matt Delanoit did not have his hand raised versus Jeremy Lang he still went out and competed against one of the top fighters on the card and in doing so improved his game by fighting the best.
Stock Down: With just seven pro fights to his credit Jason Riley was afforded a huge opportunity when he signed on to battle former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia in the main event of Adrenaline's fourth show.
Riley, still only 28 years old, talked up a huge game prior to fight time and even had many MMA insiders predicting that he could pull off the upset. When you're the underdog you need confidence and Riley showed plenty of it.
Executing his game plan is where Riley showed is inexperience. Riley could not get past Sylvia's long reach the entire first round and thus was not able to blitz the former UFC contender. In his last two defeats Sylvia was undone by two men with very fast hands for heavyweights. (Ray Mercer and Fedor Emelianenko) Riley, like most heavyweights, simply does not have the hand speed to employ that strategy.
Also, overlooked is the fact that one of the 6'6 Riley's biggest weapons in the cage is his height. In the past Riley has been able to set the pace of the fight with his jab, never has he had to look up to an opponent or been picked apart from a distance with repeated punches.
Good heavyweights are hard to find and Riley is a still a solid prospect. Riley, is a three star MMA prospect and the loss to Sylvia was a good break that may have not paid dividends in real time, but will help the big man from Ohio down the road in his MMA career path.
