Mexico’s Antonio Duarte scores win number 16 and moves closer to big league contract
July 31, 2012
Southern California promotion the Xplode Fight Series held their eighth event of 2012 with a massive 12 fight pro card. On the San Pasqual Reservation Mexican fighter Antonio Duarte (16-4) continued his move down to bantamweight with a win over San Diego local Brady Harrison (9-9).Based out of Tijuana, Duarte is a former featherweight prospect who is now 3-2 in his last five fights.
Duarte is best known for competing on the undercard of Affliction's Day of Reckoning event and was previously 0-2 competing on American soil. A three star prospect on the brink of four at featherweight, Duarte's move to 135 pounds will inject new life into his career. With hopes of landing a long-term US deal, Duarte was ranked as the number 19 featherweight prospect in MMA in the latest ULTMMA.com top 20.
In the co-main event San Diego lightweight Derek Anderson (6-0) upset longtime King of the Cage fighter Kris Armbrister (7-3) with a first round guillotine choke. Since turning pro in August 2011 Anderson has stopped all six of his opponents; four inside the first round.
6'2 Mexican lightweight prospect Jose Tapia (4-0) netted his second win in the span of four months with a round one TKO of Californian Anthony Moore (0-7).
