Josh Burkman KO’s Melendez & Jordan Smith remains unbeaten: Throwdown Showdown V results

Orem, UT - The losing streak is over for Josh Burkman. After bowing out of the UFC with three consecutive defeats, the Utah native dropped Brandon Melendez with a right hand four minutes into the first round of the main event of Throwdown Showdown V.
In a battle of ex UFC Ultimate Fighter cast members Burkman 19-8 bested Melendez 22-15 with a more refined striking game. With a minute remaining in the opening frame Burkman landed a crisp right hand that sent Melendez to his back for good. The KO win was just the fourth knockout win of Burkman's career.
Two titles were also on the line at Throwdown Showdown and both champions retained their belts. Featherweight champion Steve Siler gutted out a five round decision over IFL vet Enoch Wilson while lightweight champion Rad Martinez also earned a unanimous decision versus challenger Steve Sharp.
Five star light heavyweight prospect Jordan Smith made his a successful debut at middleweight scoring a submission victory over ex IFL contender Bristol Marunde. The win moved Smith's record to 10-0-1 with all 10 wins coming via (T) KO or submission.
Having spent the majority of his career at 205 pounds Smith makes for a massive 185 pound fighter on the local circuit.
A mix of youth, size, and striking ability has the 24 year old Smith ranked number eight in the Ultmma50, a pound for pound listing of 50 best unsigned prospects on the local MMA scene
