Lemoore, CA-Inside the Tachi Palace hotel and casino Tachi Palace Fights produced its third event of 2009. The card was littered with former fighters from Pride, UFC and Strikeforce as well as a two of the best MMA prospects in California.

Prospect Watch: Eddie Yagin and David Mitchell

For the first time in over five years Eddie Yagin walked out of the cage with his hand not raised in victory. Former UFC welterweight now, featherweight fighter, Diego Saraiva 17-8-1 out slugged Yagin until the referee put an end to the bout midway into the third round.

Yagin 13-4-1 entered the bout on the cusp of being called up to a national promotion like the WEC. The hard nosed Filipino fighter's resume still says he should be competing on the national stage. With wins over Casey Olson, Shawn Bias, and Ryan Diaz Yagin has always looked dominate when competing at his natural weight class of 145 pounds.

Despite the setback there are still plenty of competitive fights for Yagin at featherweight or if possible 135 pounds. If there is such a thing as a quality loss than the majority of Yagin's defeats fall under that stat line including lightweight losses to Rich Clementi and Vitor Ribeiro.

The 30 year old Yagin still clocks in at number 11 in the ULTMMA50, a pound for listing of the top 50 unsigned MMA prospects, with perhaps still just one signature win away from landing a WEC contract.

Now with a 9-0 record David Mitchell is quietly building a case to labeled one of the top welterweights on the west coast. Known for his grappling, Mitchell scored his seventh submission win and needed less than 60 seconds to do so as he grabbed a hold Bobby Green's right leg and did release until his opponent tapped from a toe hold.

Mitchell burst onto the scene after he was able to grind out a unanimous decision over ex UFC competitor and MMA media lighting rod War Machine in October's edition of Tachi Palace Fights. A battle with fellow undefeated Golden State welterweight Kyle Pimental would be a good measuring stick for both men and could headline any promotion's next event in California.
