With just three weeks remaining until his professional MMA debut 1982 Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker has an opponent. Rage in the Cage competitor Greg Nagy is expected to meet Walker as part of the televised portion of Strikeforce's next event on Showtime on January 30th.

Multiple sources close to the event have informed ULTMMA.com (www.ultmma.com) of the likely match-up on Thursday January 7 with the FL Department of Business and Professional Regulation approving the bout on Friday.

Walker, who was inducted into the college football Hall of Fame in 1999, announced his intentions to compete in MMA in September 2009.

Strikeforce: Miami takes place on January 30th at the Bank Atlantic Center and will air live on Showtime.

Nagy, a 26 year old from Arizona, last competed at Rage in the Cage 136 in November 2009. After three hard rounds Nagy dropped a decision to Francisco Navvarro. A pro since August 2009, Nagy is a modest 1-1 in his career thus far including a TKO win over Robert Principato.

Started in 1999 by MMA pioneer Roland Sarria Rage in the Cage has produced over 100 successful MMA events in the state of Arizona and produced MMA vets including: Jamie Varner, Joe Riggs, and Drew Fickett.

A 11 year NFL pro Walker has spent the past several weeks training mixed martial arts at American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, CA. Run by head trainer "Crazy" Bob Cook, Walker has had the opportunity to train with current UFC standouts Josh Koscheck, Mike Swick, Jon Fitch and heavyweight Cain Velasquez while working out at AKA.
