5150 Combat League/ XFL full results: Joey Beltran TKO’s Houston Alexander & WW Ken Jackson wins 3rd in a row
Tulsa, OK-For the local Oklahoma MMA scene the new year kicked off with a co-promotion collaboration between two of the biggest organizations in the state. With a total of 18 fights on the docket the night saw a balanced mix of local talent as well as former UFC competitors.
Prospect Watch: Ken Jackson and Joey Beltran
Stock Up- Welterweight Ken Jackson continues to look dominate versus fellow local talent. The 24 year old moved to a solid 7-3 with his first round submission win over MMA rookie Ron Kirk 0-1. Though a win over a fighter making his debut is not an impressive feat for a veteran like Jackson, the manner in which he took care of business is a sign of maturity.
A native of Norman Oklahoma, Jackson has shown aptitude for subbing opponents with a total of seven submissions in his seven victories. Even in defeat Jackson has yet to hear the judge's scorecards read. Jackson holds what you could call "quality losses" versus high ranking welterweights including current UFC fighter Brian Foster and four star prospect Bobby Voelker.
Stock-Up- Four star heavyweight prospect Joey Beltran picked up his biggest win in terms of name recognition with his round two TKO of former UFC star Houston Alexander. Against Alexander a powerful striker Beltran showcased his ground game, scoring takedowns in both rounds. In the middle of the second Beltran got the fight to floor where he would eventually finish off Alexander with a brutal display of ground and pound.
The 28 year old from California is coming off a successful 2009 campaign that saw him go 4-1 inside the cage. Beltran holds notable wins over veterans Wes Combs and Sherman Pendergarst, with his two of his three losses coming to King of the Cage stalwart Tony Lopez. With in-ring experience for both Bellator Fighting Championship and Strikeforce, Beltran would be a welcomed addition to any national MMA promotion's heavyweight division.
