4 Star heavyweight prospect Chad Corvin signs w/ the UFC

Kentucky heavyweight Chad Corvin has arrived in the UFC earlier than expected. The 23 year old prospect has confirmed that he has signed with the biggest MMA promotion in the land. At 6'5 253 pounds Corvin is part of growing trend of big athletic heavyweights entering MMA.

A wrestler in high school Corvin has a good grappling base to work with. Corvin is 6-0 and has yet to see the second round his pro career. A physically imposing presence, Corvin is a natural power puncher who has shown the ability to become more technical with his strikes with each passing fight. As a young aggressive heavyweight Corvin will be a match-up problems for much of the smaller heavyweights in the UFC.

As far as matchmaking goes expect Corvin to follow a similar career path as other young heavyweights Chase Gormley, Todd Duffee and Brendan Schaub.

In the hit and miss world of scouting MMA heavyweight prospects Chad Corvin stood out as a four star prospect. Corvin checks in at number 27 in the ULTMMA50, a pound for pound listing of top unsigned prospects in MMA, because of his youth, size and athleticism that provides a foundation for a potentially scary heavyweight competitor.

"It's an honor. It's what everybody hopes for in our line of work, like a minor league baseball player being called up to the majors. I'd like to match up with somebody in the same position as me, new in the UFC, new to the program, and just work my way up. I'm at the bottom right now, so I'll start at the bottom and go up.

It came as a surprise. I was on YouTube and put my name in [the search box] so I could watch one of my fight videos and I saw something new (The Ultimate Fighter Alternate Heavyweights Part 1 mentioned above) and saw I was number one on the list. Josh [Johnson] contacted me a few days later and told me there were a couple contract offers. It was a big surprise because I'm just an average guy working for a living."
