King of the Cage Vengeance main card results- Mulhern upsets Clementi & Cullum subs Coca in the first
King of the Cage made its debut on HDNet with a five fight televised card filled with subs and stoppages. Santa Fe's Quinn Mulhern (9-1) dominated nine fight UFC vet Rich Clementi (35-16-1) for a full eight minutes before getting on top midway through the second round and raining down a TKO barrage of strikes for the finish.
The 25 year old Mulhern normally competes at welterweight and at 6'3 makes for a very lean lightweight prospect.
In a battle of New Mexico bantamweights the more experience Abel Cullum (17-3) overwhelmed 20 year old Joe Coca (7-1) right from the opening bell. Cullum surprised Coca with an early striking display that gave him the advantage once the fight hit the floor.
On the mat Cullum unleashed a chain combination of one submission after another which Coca defended gamely. The end came with Cullum locking in a tight Kimura from top position that forced the tap-out at the 2:09 mark of the opening round.
For Coca it was the first loss of his career, but it will serve as a good learning experience for the 20 year old combatant who still has a high ceiling as a MMA prospect. With back to back wins since his appearance in the Dream featherweight tournament early in 2009, Cullum has done more than enough to earn a second shot with a National MMA promotion like the WEC.
