Jeff Monson vs. Scott Barrett in the works for XFL Evolution in Michigan
Ypsilanti, MI-A heavyweight match-up between former UFC title contender Jeff Monson (32-9) and four star heavyweight prospect Scott Barrett (9-1) will take place at Xtreme Kombat League's March 20th event.
A source close to the competitors today told ULTMMA.com (www.ultmma.com) that bout agreements between the two men will be finalized this week.
The Barrett vs. Monson bout will be part of a card featuring two title fights including: 205 pound prospect Eric Smith taking on Ricky Shivers and Ultimate Fighter season five contestant Corey Hill versus Canada's Marc Holst for the promotions lightweight belt.
XFL I: Evolution is scheduled to take place on March 20th at the Convocation Center on the campus of Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.
Barrett makes for a very compelling heavyweight prospect because of his big league strength and his ability to finish fights; seven of his nine wins have come via (T) KO.
For Barrett the Monson fight gives him the opportunity to add a high profile win to his MMA record. The 28 year old has reeled off three straight wins since suffering his only loss to recent UFC signee Chad Corvin at XFC 7 in February 2009.
The fight for Barrett has been a point of contention due to the fact the match was halted 90 seconds in after Barrett suffered a devastating knee injury.
Looking to rebound from a loss to Pedro Rizzo, Monson picked up a win at Oklahoma's 5150 CL/ XFL show on January 16th. Prior to the Rizzo defeat Monson posted wins in his seven previous including victories over Roy Nelson, Ricco Rodriguez and Sergei Kharitonov.
