American Steel Cagefighting 2 Card
Salem, NH - On Friday September 11th New Hampshire promotion American Steel Cagefighting puts on its second show at the I Center in Salem.
The main event features one of the top Northeast lightweight prospects in the country. Calvin Kattar, a 21 year old from Massachusetts, owns a 7-1 pro MMA record.
Kattar is a wrestler who can keep the fight standing with his takedown defense or take an opponent down at will with his grappling ability. The wrestler's tendency to stand and trade with his opponents has insiders making comparisons to another famed New England striker.
The Kattar-Micky Ward comparisons are a little premature, but even the idea of mentioning Kattar alongside the Lowell, MA legend gives scouts a idea of the style of fighter Kattar currently is.
Kattar is 2-0 thus far in 2009 with his last win coming in June versus Rodrigo Almeida at a World Championship Fighting event. His only career loss came in May 2008 to MMA veteran Binky Jones on the undercard of the first Elite XC show on CBS.
His opponent Andrew Montanez is a 24 year old from New York. Montanez is coming into the fight as a heavy underdog due to his 7-10-1 MMA record. The fighter from Queens has hit a particular rough patch as of late dropping 4 out of his last 5 fights, with the 5th fight declared a draw.
The only hope for Montanez is the fact that he is a natural welterweight fighter and may hold a slight size advantage over Katter come fight time.
Kattar is currently ranked number 48 in the Ultmma50, a pound for pound list of the top unsigned local MMA prospects.
