Havoc at the Hyatt 2 in MN results- Four time D3 wrestling champ Marcus LeVesseur upset by Jay Buck
Minneapolis, MN - Top 50 pound for pound prospect Marcus LeVesseur (11-4) was slotted in the main event position of the second edition of Havoc at Hyatt in Minnesota. Journeyman lightweight Jay Buck (13-8) of Illinois made for an interesting chose of opponent for LeVesseur, who with a four fight winning streak may have been closer than ever to getting a call-up to a major MMA organization.
The first round began as expected as LeVesseur landed his takedowns to control Buck. Working from top position LeVesseur kept busy with a steady diet of strikes that stifled Buck. In the second round, it was Buck who looked to put the undefeated collegiate wrestler on his back.
LeVesseur stuffed Buck's takedown attempt and ended up again working from the top. Not satisfied with a repeat of the first frame, Buck looked to sweep LeVesseur with an omoplata attempt. In the midst of his submission attempt Buck also landed several strikes to the back of LeVesseur's head and received a warning from the official.
With the referee not electing to stop the fight or deduct a point from Buck, the veteran of over 20 fights continued to unleash punches onto the now turtled up LeVesseur. A TKO finish was declared in favor of Buck 4:20 into the second round.
For Buck the win was his second in a row after dropping his previous four fights. A professional fighter since 2000, the win for Buck was perhaps his biggest since a February 2003 victory over ex-WEC competitor Kyle Jensen.
At 27 years of age LeVesseur could ill afford an upset loss at this point in his career. Boasting a 296-0 collegiate amateur wrestling record at Division III Augsburg College, LeVesseur is still one of the top credentialed lightweight grappling prospects in MMA.
In order to fast track his way back on to the radars of national MMA promotions LeVesseur may need back to back wins over former UFC fighters. With a step up in competition LeVesseur will be able to maintain his current rating as a four star 155 pound prospect.
