Cracking the glass ceiling- three women’s MMA tournaments already booked for 2010
2010 is already shaping up to be banner year for the two of the more highly competitive weight classes in women's MMA. On January 30th Freestyle Cage Fighting will begin an 8 woman tournament in the bantamweight class. Based in Oklahoma, Freestyle Cage Fighting has scheduled the 135 pound tournament to take place over the course of three events with the finals being held sometime in the summer of 2010.
Strikeforce will reignite their push for women's MMA beginning with a scheduled title fight between Sarah Kaufman 10-0 vs. Takayo Hashi 12-1 for the promotion's vacant 135 pound belt. The bout is tentatively scheduled for a Strikeforce Challengers event in San Jose on Friday February 26th.
In April, Strikeforce will begin their much talked about women's 135 pound and 145 pound tournaments. The opening rounds of these two separate eight woman tournaments will start on the promotion's yet to be determined Challengers series event.
